One day, huge impact

Eleven years and running strong, the YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids has emerged to become one of Kelowna’s favourite fundraisers. The event, which promises to increase your heart rate in more ways than one, will take place on Sunday, May 28, 2017 outside the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre.

Registration is now open for individuals and teams to take part in a fun 45-minute stationary cycle class as well as enjoy a kid zone, vendors, a silent auction, music, prizes and more.

“This is the YMCA’s largest fundraiser of the year,” says Rhonda Zakala, General Manager of Fund Development for the YMCA of Okanagan. “Currently one in five children are in need of donor funding to access the YMCA and in our child care programs, the number is one in three. With a high number of families in the Central Okanagan living in poverty, we rely on the generosity of local residents and businesses to ensure the health and vitality of our children today and into the future.”

In 2016, YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids attracted more than 300 participants and raised over $100,000. The money raised goes to support underprivileged children and youth from our community, giving them the chance to participate in YMCA child care, day camps, aquatics, employment readiness and before and after school enrichment programs.

Participants who sign up for YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids before April 28 will be entered into a draw for a Specialized bicycle donated by Fresh Air.

YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids is presented by sponsors Fresh Air and Delcourt Advisory Group at Scotia Wealth Management.
