PENTICTON - South Okanagan residents concerned about recent crime in the area will get the chance to talk to local Mounties about the issue.
Oliver RCMP is hosting a Community Safety Forum on Monday, Feb. 29, at 7 p.m. at the Oliver Community Centre.
Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment Supt. Kevin Hewco and South Okanagan Similkameen Crime Stoppers and Community Policing Coordinator Rick Dellebuur will be attending the meeting.
The meeting will discuss recent crimes in the area and how the community can work with the police to reduce and prevent these crimes, Oliver Detachment Commander Blaine Gervais, who will also be present, says in a release.
A report made to the Regional District Board of Directors during their regular board meeting by Hewco on Jan. 21 revealed property crimes were not only prolific in the area, but also all over the province.
During that meeting, Okanagan Falls Director Tom Siddon complained of a lack of visible police presence in his area while Osoyoos Director Mark Pendergraft expressed his concerns regarding the lack of 24-hour policing in rural communities of the regional district.
