OKANAGAN – A local distillery has been called to Denmark to hear if they will once again be called out as one of the best in the world.
Okanagan Spirits was named World Spirits Award Distillery of the Year in 2013 and Senior distiller Peter von Hahn is on his way to Denmark this week to see if they can repeat their success for 2015.
As North America’s only designated World Class Distillery, according to the international body that in 2013 included 112 distilleries from 68 countries, Okanagan Spirits has a lot to live up to. This year some new products, such as the Haskap berry liquer made with honeysuckle berries from Smithers, a-yet-to-be-released Final Proof Master Distiller whiskey and a single malt whiskey called Laird of Fintry will be judged, and based on their merits the local company could be granted another Double Gold standing.
In 2013 Okanagan Spirits Black Currant Liqueur won Spirit of the Year with the most points ever scored at the event. Their Absinthe Classic, Aquavit, Cherry Liqueur and Raspberry Liqueur also brought home gold medals and their Pear Williams Yellow, Bradshaw Plum, Plum Wood Aged, Apple Wood Aged and Cherry Staccato received silver medals.
The World Spirit Awards 2015 will be held at the Braunstein Distillery in Denmark March 19.
