Okanagan Spirits Distillery overwhelmed by sanitizer demand from essential service workers

Although Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery had originally planned to distribute its free hand sanitizer to the public tomorrow, CEO Tyler Dyck said that the demand from front-line health and essential services is too overwhelming to distribute to the public at this time.

"We have had to push back any general public release so that we can service these groups first," Dyck told iNFOnews.ca today, March 24. "We are trying to focus where it can have the most and greatest positive impact for all and we are also trying to keep everyone safe social distancing wise."

He added that a stampede of customers crowding the store for hand sanitizer would not be safe for anyone at this time.

Okanagan Spirits has received over a 1,000 requests for sanitizer over the past few days from health clinics, hospitals, grocery stores, bank cashiers, postal and other delivery services, B.C. Hydro and more.

“We’re trying our best here, and we’re trying to focus on those most at risk first," Dyck said. "Hopefully people can be patient and understanding.”

Updates on public distribution of sanitizer will be provided as more information becomes available.
