PENTICTON - The Okanagan-Similkameen Regional District announced today, Oct. 21, the purchase of three new parkland properties in Naramata.
One property is two parcels of land totalling 0.76 acres next to Wharf waterfront Park. The other is a 1.5 acre parcel located adjacent to Naramata Elementary School, according to a regional district media release.
Negotiations began with the B.C. Fruit Cooperative in November 2015 to acquire the property at 3950 and 3955 1 St. in Naramata for parkland use. The sale was finalized in September at a price of $1,150,000.
Negotiations began with School District 67 to acquire the property at 860 Robinson Avenue in Naramata for parkland use in November 2015, the district says. This parcel is adjacent to the Naramata Elementary School and includes tennis and sports courts.
On March 24, 2016, $451,000 of Parkland Acquisition funds were used to purchase the land. A facility use agreement between the regional district and the school district was reached during the sale. The agreement allows for the use of the land and school building for recreation programs.
