Some Okanagan movie theatres set to reopen next month

Movie lovers in the Okanagan will able to see films on the big screen again next month.

Landmark Cinemas has announced its reopening the Grand 10 in Kelowna, West Kelowna’s Encore and at Penticton's theatre, July 3.

Cineplex is also planning to reopen B.C. locations on July 3. Cineplex has locations in Kelowna, Vernon and Kamloops.

New social distancing measures will be in place including a 50 per cent reduced capacity in recliner locations and a 75 per cent reduced capacity in traditional seating locations, according to the Landmark Cinemas website.

Recliner seating locations will have alternating love seats, blocked off and checkerboard pattern in front and behind each customer. Traditional seating locations will have three seats between each pair of seats and alternating rows blocked off.

The number of showtimes will also be reduced and signage has been installed in the theatres to reduce congestion.

Landmark employee will also wear personal protective equipment and will be required to wash their hands every 30 minutes. Concession menu items will also be reduced and new queue lines have been installed.
