An outing on Okanagan Lake last weekend cost two local fishermen hundreds of dollars in fines and confiscated fishing gear.

Penticton conservation officers on boat patrol were on Okanagan Lake conducting compliance inspections on Sunday, May 10.

The officers encountered two people angling for burbot with illegal bait and prohibited gear, the Conservation Officer Service said in a social media post this morning, May 12.

The anglers, who were Okanagan residents, were fined a combined $600 in tickets and had their reels, rods, and fish seized.

The conservation officers also issued fines for angling with more than one fishing line, possessing live fish, multiple prohibited gear infractions and small vessel regulation infractions.

Conservation officers remind fishermen to be aware of the rules and regulations as they may be inspected for licensing requirements, gear and catch limits if they are out fishing.
