Temperatures are forecast to rise above normal this weekend, climbing as high as 23 Celsius in Kamloops on Sunday and 22 C in the Okanagan.
But a low pressure system in Washington state is likely to ease into the south and central Okanagan with a chance of 2 to 5 millimetres of rain.
“If you have any plans for this weekend, keep an eye on the forecast because there is some uncertainty about the timing of the low pressure system moving across southern B.C.,” Environment Canada meteorologist Johnathan Bau told iNFOnews.ca.
There’s likely to be more rain in Penticton, less in Kelowna and, maybe, just a sprinkle in Vernon. It could move in as early as Saturday.
Kamloops should be spared any rain.
If Kelowna gets 5 mm of rain, that would equal the total that fell in the entire first three weeks of April.
As of April 21, the city only had 18% of its normal precipitation, making it the third driest month on record for that period. It was also 2.5 C below normal, making it the fourth coolest on record.
Kamloops had its second coolest start to April at 3 C below normal. It also got 18% of its normal precipitation for the first three weeks but that’s only its 12th driest start to the month.
The probability forecast for May is that it will be a normal month in terms of temperature, which average highs of 20 C and lows of 5 C in the Okanagan, with highs of 21.5 C and lows of almost 8 C for Kamloops, Bau said.
There’s likely to be a cool start to the month but warmer days, into the low 20s later on should balance it out to be normal.
The probability forecast model did not include precipitation, Bau said.
