One man is dead after two personal watercraft collided in Okanagan Lake this morning.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., West Kelowna RCMP responded to a collision between two personal watercraft on Okanagan Lake where one person was seriously injured, according to a news release. Police were called by Emergency Health Services.

Upon arriving at the Summerland boat launch, officers met with the operator of one watercraft who identified themselves as an off-duty RCMP officer.

The operator of the other watercraft was taken to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. will be investigating the actions of the off-duty police officer.

The RCMP say no further information will be released by police.

“Please note that all aspects and circumstances of this incident will be the subject of independent investigation by the IIO BC.”
