A traffic stop in Vernon led to the seizure of 1.5 million contraband cigarettes.
It happened around 10 p.m. on Jan. 8, according to a media release from the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.
An officer stopped a vehicle that was pulling a trailer in the 4800 block of 27 Street in Vernon.
A 45-year-old man operating the vehicle – a resident of Lumby – was prohibited from driving and arrested.
Upon further investigation, evidence was discovered which resulted in the seizure of nearly 1.5 million cigarettes, all of which police believe to be contraband.
The suspect was released from custody and the investigation is ongoing.
