Organizers of the so-called mega rally for those opposed to COVID-19 restrictions have managed to avoid another ticket.
Kelowna RCMP said their focus was observing and keeping the peace when they responded Feb. 13 to an event that gathered 200 protestors in Stuart Park. A small number of “anti-protestors” who were present and vocally opposing the mega rally were also observed, RCMP said. Gatherings contravene public health orders.
Officers were on hand to ensure the safety of the public and the protestors, and to conduct an investigation into the breach of the provincial public health orders.
“At this time, we have not issued any fines as a result of this event,” Supt. Kara Triance, Officer in Charge of the Kelowna RCMP said in a press release.
“When we are dealing with a large crowd like this, our focus is on keeping the peace and maintaining officer safety. We have gathered evidence in this matter, and will be in discussions with our partners in the BC Health Authority and the BC Prosecution Service on the next steps in this investigation.”
There were no reported disturbances at this event.
No further information is being released at this time.
