The man accused in a collision that killed a Thompson Rivers University volleyball player and injured two others isn't facing criminal charges.
Violations under the Motor Vehicle Act against, Colvall Shaquille Abbinett, born in 1995, were filed in Kamloops Provincial Court on Nov. 25, nearly a year to the day of Owyn McInnis' death.
McInnis, 22, was killed in the Nov. 29, 2023 crash on McGill Road, while his teammates Owen Waterhouse and Riley Brinnen were seriously injured.
A truck hit several trees before colliding with the TRU WolfPack players who were in a Volkswagen that was stopped at a red light. A Jeep was also hit, but the two occupants had only minor injuries.

The driver remained at the scene at the time of the collision and investigators found he wasn't impaired by drugs or alcohol, RCMP said in a media release.
Abbinett is expected in court on Dec. 23, facing two provincial traffic violations for driving without care, according to online court records.
Kamloops RCMP said the detachment sent a report to prosecutors and it was the BC Prosecution Service which "concluded that the evidence supported a charge" under the Motor Vehicle Act rather than a criminal one.
It's not clear whether police recommended a criminal charge nor is it clear when police concluded their investigation.

“We understand that many people have been impacted by this tragedy, and our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and those in the community who have been affected,” Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley said in the release.
“It’s important for me to acknowledge the significant work of our investigators, the witnesses, community partners, and the families involved who allowed us to establish the facts and circumstances that resulted in such tragic loss. We remain committed to supporting the families impacted as we advance forward.”
A BC Prosecution Service spokesperson wasn't immediately available for comment.
