KELOWNA - There will be no Apple Triathlon for 2017.

According to a press release, the event will be taking a sabbatical year in order to fully support the International Triathlon Union Multisport World Championship Festival -taking place August 18 - 27 this year - which would overlap with the Apple Triathlon.

“We will miss the Apple Triathlon in 2017, but we like the direction the organizers are taking to make this elite event even bigger and better for next season and for years to come,” Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran said in a press release.

M1 Sports Management Inc. has been hired to help plan the 2018 Kelowna Apple Triathlon. The organization has a long list of connections within the tri-community, having organized the Suburu Vancouver Triathlon, the Vancouver 5150 Triathlon, Iron Girl Vancouver, and the upcoming International Triathlon Union Multisport World Championship Festival being held in Penticton this year.

“We are excited to be planning for the future of the Kelowna Apple Triathlon by bringing on board the skills and expertise of M1 Sport Management and felt this sabbatical year was the right thing to do in support of the ITU World in Penticton, while allowing us to refresh our race for 2018,” Kelowna Apple Triathlon Board Chairman Ernie Lalonde said in a press release.

The Kelowna Apple Triathlon will be held August 18 - 19, 2018, downtown Kelowna. Starting in 1983, the triathlon comprises of a 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike and a 10 km run.
