New premier sworn in for Newfoundland and Labrador today

ST JOHNS, N.L. - The premier of Newfoundland and Labrador will hand over the reins of power today.

Kathy Dunderdale announced earlier this week she was quitting amid unhappiness with her leadership, both from the public and from members of her caucus.

Her finance minister Tom Marshall will serve as interim premier until a new leader is chosen later this year.

Marshall will be sworn in later today.

Dunderdale was under growing pressure after two members left the Conservative caucus questioning her leadership.

A major flashpoint was her handling of electricity failures earlier this month that left tens-of-thousands of hydro customers without power.
