NHL stars Jordin Tootoo and Byron Dafoe coming to Westbank First Nation charity golf tournament

KELOWNA - Westbank First Nation (WFN) is hosting their 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, July 12th, at Two Eagles Golf Course.

Celebrities in attendance include Jordin Tootoo, right winger for the Chicago Blackhawks; Byron Dafoe, former Boston Bruins goaltender; and WFN Chief & Council.

Proceeds from the tournament will go towards enhancing WFN youth programming and assisting more Aboriginal youth in participating in organized sports and cultural activities.

“Youth continue to be one of WFN's top priorities,” says WFN Councillor Mic Werstuik. “By supporting our youth, we believe the foundation of a healthy community is created.”

Traditional and cultural training, a WFN Youth Leadership Council, snowboard team, summer kids camps, Girl Power groups, tutoring classes, a 2015 Chevrolet 3500 Express Passenger Van for WFN Youth outings, as well as the future planning of an Outdoor Cultural Kitchen next to WFN’s new Youth Centre (opening this Fall), have all been supported in part by donations such as those made through the Golf Tournament.

“The tremendous community support we’ve received has led to the success of so many of our young people, and we are extremely grateful for that,” says Werstuik.
