Officials to remove footbridge in Pemigewasset Wildnerness

LINCOLN, N.H. - New Hampshire officials say an old footbridge in the Pemigewasset Wilderness will be removed.

New Hampshire Public Radio reports the White Mountain National Forest Service announced this week they are removing the Thoreau Falls Bridge. The bridge has been closed to hikers since last fall.

Officials will start removing the structure this fall. District ranger Brooke Brown says hazard signs will be posted telling hikers to cross the water at their own risk.

The Forest Service constructed the bridge in 1962.
