A popular Kelowna vegan food truck now has a brick and mortar location.

Renegade Kitchen & Craft Bar, which is owned by Shaun Sanders and Meghan Carr, opened at 467 Leon Avenue on Boxing Day and the social media buzz has thus far been very positive.

The popular food truck opened in 2018 and for those who aren’t familiar with their brand of veganism, it's all made clear through a statement on their website.

“This is comfort food, NOT health food,” they say.

“This is comforting and familiar. This is the gateway drug to plant-based eating. This is how to convince your stubborn  Dad that vegan food is delicious. This is not food designed for vegans. This is food designed for EVERYONE.”

In 2018 Dalhousie University conducted a study indicating there are 2.3 million vegetarians in Canada, up from 900,000 15 years ago. Another 850,000 people consider themselves vegan.

In Kelowna, like the rest of Canada, meatless restaurants are increasingly dotting the culinary landscape in a bid to cater to vegans and people who are looking to make smaller cuts to their meat consumption.

Renegade Kitchen & Craft Bar will be 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday, with extended hours coming in the New Year.
