The Shuswap could see a brand new, two-day music festival this summer.

The Monashee Music Festival is slated to be held July 17 and 18 in Sicamous and it hopes to attract crowds of up 1,500 for a selection of live rock and country music.

The festival organizers, Kayla and Andy Bowie who run Kelowna's OK Corral Cabaret, said in a letter to the District of Sicamous they hope the festival will become an annual event. The District gave organizers the green light for the festival.

While no bands are as yet confirmed to perform, organizers said they were waiting to get the OK from the District before moving forward.

Their target is now to have artists booked and tickets on sale on April 1. Tickets should cost $59 a day or $89 for a two-day pass.

The plan is to hold the festival in the Sicamous dog park, the former site of the Summer Stomp biker festival which held its final festival last year.

"We would like to work with the community to build this up and have a long term, positive relationship which would be financially and socially beneficial for the community of Sicamous," organizers said in their letter to the District of Sicamous.
