KAMLOOPS - Improvements and additions to Highway 5 between Barriere and Little Fort are on the way.

According to a release from the B.C. Government, motorists can expect the finished highway with the new and improved passing lanes to be completed in fall of 2018.

Workers have already started pre-construction work in the Darfield area between Barriere and Little Fort.

The planned southbound passing lane will be three kilometres long. The existing northbound passing lane will be extended by 2.7 km.

Crews have already started fencing, tree clearing and minor brushing for utility relocation, the province says.

The province doesn't say how much the project will cost.
