New Life Community launches new campaign in Kamloops

New Life Community, located at 181 Victoria Street W in downtown Kamloops.

KAMLOOPS – The New Life Community of Kamloops has launched a Share Warmth campaign.

The mild winter weather has seen the non-profit organization experience a decline in donations. The need for donations is so great they are putting out an emergency call.

“We’ve been open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for over a year and we have seen a steady stream of people coming in to warm up this winter,” says Stan Dueck, executive director of New Life Community Kamloops in a press release. “When we get a cold snap, we see our donations rise because people can’t imagine living outside in the bitter cold. But when the weather is milder like it is now, people tend to forget.”

The New Life Community is encouraging residents to Share Warmth in four different ways.

To share food, by dropping off a frozen turkey, ham or roast they can use to make hearty meals for those in need. Also, to share beverages such as a tin of coffee to provide warm drinks when the weather is the coldest.

Clothing and toiletries are also always needed and the New Life Community. Gloves and socks are important items to help keep people warm. They also need every day items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and deodorant.

Lastly, they ask residents to share whatever resources they can. Donations are vital to their organization to operate. Donations can be made online at www.newlifekamloops.ca.
