New Kamloops spray park opens today

Eager young park goers watch in anticipation as city workers test the new McDonald Park spray park.

KAMLOOPS - The nation's birthday will be the first day for the city's newest splash park.

McDonald Park is home to the new water play park as city crews finished off the final details yesterday. It will be open today, July 1, on schedule and on budget, city capital projects manager Darren Crundwell says.

“I hope the community there likes it, I know it was hard to lose the pool,” he says.

It’s the fourth spray park in the city and replaces the McDonald pool, which is being filled in. Other spray parks are at Albert McGowan Park, Riverside Park and Westsyde's Centennial Park.

Kamloops council decided not to repair the pool in April, though some residents were not pleased with the decision.

The spray park was tested and turfed yesterday.
