New independent pet hospital opens in Kelowna

A new pet hospital has opened up in Kelowna’s South Pandosy neighbourhood.

Southside Pet Hospital opened up at the start of the month and the owner, and only veterinarian, Dr. Charlie Sulko said they are just getting started.

The hospital is accepting new clients and offering a 20% discount until the end of the month.

“I think we're pretty competitive, to be honest. We're just promoting the month of May,” Sulko said.

Southside Pet Hospital is independently owned, rather than owned by an umbrella company that would take care of the back-end business aspects of the practice.

Sulko said he wants to have control over how he practices.

“A lot of times there is pressure when you work with those big companies to do certain things their way, right? I like to practice the way I've been taught,” Sulko said.

“I think there was a wave, like when COVID hit, those companies became popular. I think it's not as bad right now. I can't say if there is a rise, but I would say probably most of the clinics are owned by those companies.”

The hospital isn’t a 24/7 emergency clinic, but it takes urgent walk-ins during business hours at #107 – 3110 Lakeshore Rd.
