The 139 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours is a new record high for B.C., provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said today.

“We need to work together to push our curve back down,” Dr. Henry said during today’s, Sept. 10, briefing, noting we will have to deal with this disease for months to come.

There were no new deaths over the last 24 hours, leaving that total at 213 but there are 1,412 active cases including 42 people in hospital, 14 of whom are in intensive care.

There have been 3,551 cases in the Fraser Health region, 2,343 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 187 in the Vancouver Island Health region, 203 in the Northern Health region and 84 non-residents.

There were no new cases in the Interior Health region, leaving that total at 462.

As well, there are 3,109 people being monitored and 5,190 who have recovered.

“Remember that we’re engaging in more social interactions,” health minister Adrian Dix said. “Dr. Henry has asked us to examine our social interactions. Stick with six.”

That means, no more than six people in groups going out to restaurants and events, and to keep with the same six people, he said, adding safe distancing and frequent hand washing is essential to battle COVID-19.
