Neighbours thanked for quickly reporting house fire in West Kelowna

WEST KELOWNA - Firefighters rushed to the scene of a house fire this morning in West Kelowna after neighbours reported smoke billowing from the charred windows.

The call came in just after 7 a.m. today, July 12, for the house fire on Sageview Road, West Kelowna Fire Rescue assistant chief Brent Watson says in a media release.

Crews found no people or pets in the home and quickly extinguished the fire burning in the basement and garage areas, Watson says. The basement was severely damaged, as were the cars — including a Tesla — in the garage.

Eleven West Kelowna firefighters responded to the blaze in three fire engines, along with a command unit and a safety unit. One firefighter suffered minor injuries while fighting the fire, Watson says.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but appears electrical in nature, Watson says. The fire is not considered suspicious and it is not known if the owner has insurance.

“West Kelowna Fire Rescue thanks the RCMP, B.C. Ambulance, B.C. Hydro and Fortis B.C. for their assistance during the fire (and) also appreciates the quick action taken by neighbours to report the fire through 911,” Watson says.
