The SPCA has seized what it describes as 20 "badly neglected" dogs from a breeder in Chilliwack.

The agency says many of the seized animals were puppies aged as young as one day to six months and all were small breeds such as Maltese-Yorkie crosses, Pomeranians and Pekingese that can be easily sold through brokers.

A news release from the society says the dogs were found soaked in urine, with long nails and badly matted fur and many of the older animals will require extensive dental surgery.

The dogs were voluntarily surrendered and are undergoing veterinary treatment.
