Canadian crooner Shawanda to take part in Obama's inauguration festivities

.

TORONTO - Juno-nominated Canadian country crooner Crystal Shawanda is Washington-bound to help celebrate the inauguration of U.S. President Barack Obama.

She is set to perform at the Native Nations Inaugural Ball, which will be held at a Smithsonian museum on Monday.

On her Facebook profile, Shawanda called the event "the perfect way to kick off the year."

Other Canadians expected to take part in the event include blues pianist Murray Porter and comedian Gerry (The Big Bear) Barrett.

The Nashville-based Shawanda burst onto the scene with 2008's "Dawn of a New Day," which sent four singles to the Canadian charts.

Her second record, "Just Like You," came out last year.
