Music, bikes and softball headline long weekend's events in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS - As summer wraps up, events in and around Kamloops are taking advantage of the last long weekend of the season.

Slo-Pitch is taking over the tournament capital this long weekend with the National Slo-Pitch Athletics Enterprise of Canada's Co-ed World Series tournament kicking off tomorrow morning, Aug. 31. Slo-pitch teams from all over will convene in Rayleigh to play ball this weekend, with championships taking place on Monday.

All of the games will be held at the Tournament Capital Ranch, and you can go here for a full schedule of events.

The Peaks Pedal Fest is kicking off this Saturday, Sept. 1, which Sun Peaks Resort calls a celebration of all things biking. Head up to the mountain town this Labour Day weekend to enjoy several biking events including the seek and enjoy poker ride, kids foot-down derby, the "Yeah Bru!" classic dual slalom, and lift and a lager.

If wine and music are more your speed, check out Music in the Vineyards at Privato Winery, with local singer Madison Olds performing. The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2. Go here for more details.

The 69th annual North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo will run through this weekend in Barriere.

You can enjoy three days of lumberjack shows, pony chariot and chuckwagon racing, lawn tractor races, indoor and outdoor entertainment, commercial booths and a kid's zone. The rodeo cabaret dance will take place on Saturday evening, and Sunday will have the cowboy music and poetry concert. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and free for kids 10 years old and under.
