A person was killed in a shooting in the North Okanagan yesterday and RCMP are investigating it as a homicide.

Officers from Vernon North Okanagan Rural RCMP were called to a report of a shooting just after 11:30 a.m. yesterday, Sept. 20, and an associated suspect vehicle.

Police found a body in the 4500 block of Back Enderby Road in Spallumcheen, north of Vernon, after a search.

A suspect vehicle was also found during a search with the help of the RCMP air service and the heavily armed emergency response team.

Soon after, a man was arrested near Armstrong and taken into custody. RCMP said a police vehicle was damaged by the suspect during the arrest. No one was injured.

The Southeast District Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.

“The identity and further details regarding the deceased person will not be released pending further investigation and notification of next of kin,” B.C. RCMP spokesperson Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said in the release.

“At this time, we believe that the man arrested and the deceased person were known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to public safety.”
