A distraught West Kelowna man barricaded himself in his home earlier today, Oct. 16, prompting RCMP to call in tactical officers and blockade a neighbourhood street.

The brief closure of a portion of Gellatly Road and Witt Road happened at 11:30 a.m. when West Kelowna RCMP were called to a residence located in the 3000 block of Wetton Road for reports of a disturbance involving a distraught and barricaded man.

With the support of the RCMP South East District Emergency Response Team (SED ERT), Police Dog Services and specially trained crisis negotiators, RCMP were able to communicate with the distraught man.

“The 42-year-old West Kelowna man has since exited the home, where he was taken into police custody without any further incident,” RCMP Const. Lesley Smith said in a press release.
