Once in a Blue Moon charity event raised more than $2.5 million for the Child and Youth Advocacy Centre in Kelowna.
Over 340 people attended the fundraising event on July 11 to show their support for vulnerable youth and children in the area, according to a media release from the advocacy centre. The centre is a child focused charity for youth and children who have been impacted by abuse and neglect and is a way for impacted families to feel the support of the community.
“Our centre is busy with children every single day. One in three children in our community is impacted by abuse and violence. To see so many people ready to stand up for kids is incredibly moving,” executive director Ginny Becker said in the release.
The event was held at O'Rourke Family Estate Winery in Lake Country. A local culinary experience from Okanagan chefs was provided and performances were put on throughout the evening.
"The tremendous support shown at the Once in a Blue Moon event was overwhelming," organizer Rhonda Hymers said in the release.
“It was truly a night to remember, filled with generosity and solidarity for the Child and Youth Advocacy Centre of Kelowna and I was so thankful to inspire such a special night."
