More snow expected for much of the Southern Interior

FILE PHOTO

Easter eggs might be a little harder to find in much of the Southern Interior this year if they are covered by snow.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement advising of localized heavy snowfall for the South Thompson, Nicola, Similkameen and Shuswap regions today, April 1.

A statement has also been issued for most Interior mountain passes. Special weather statements are issued for Highway 3, the Coquihalla, the Okanagan Connector and the Trans Canada Highway.

Heavy bands of snow are expected this afternoon and this evening, the weather office says.

Amounts will vary considerably by region as a low pressure system is expected to dump snow across Southern B.C. this morning.

As the low approaches, the atmosphere will become increasingly unsettled and there is the potential for bands of heavier snow to develop.

For the latest information on the snowfall warning check out Environment Canada's website here.
