VERNON - A boat owner in the North Okanagan got into a soggy situation over the weekend after someone apparently pulled the plug on his boat.
Police called the Conservation Officer Service on Sunday, Sept. 10, after receiving a few complaints about a sunken boat on Okanagan Lake, just off Kin Beach.
Conservation officer Mike Richardson says they took a look and found the vessel unoccupied. It was full of water and resting on the lake bottom in about four feet of water.
Conservation officers managed to track down the owner, who was already aware of the situation. He got the boat out of the water by early afternoon on Sunday, Richardson says.
“Somebody pulled the plug on his boat where he had it moored, so that’s the reason why it sank,” Richardson says.
The case was also referred to the Ministry of Environment and the Coast Guard, Richardson says.
“There was a small oil and gas sheen on the water surface, just because the motor was under water,” Richardson says. “He (owner) got it out of the water fairly quickly so there was not too much damage to the environment.”
Richardson doesn’t know who would’ve pulled the plug on the boat, or why, but he says it “definitely wasn’t a good thing to do.”
