The Mustard Seed Kamloops may be closing in on its $20,000 goal, but it's hoping even more residents sign on for this year's Coldest Night of the Year event.
The fundraiser is aimed at helping residents of the non-profit organization's supportive living centre.
"These guys are working hard, trying to turn their lives around, doing studying, doing work to get their lives together once they leave the program," communications and volunteer coordinator Tyler Lowey says.
He says the fundraiser has raised $15,000, with proceeds going towards new mattresses.
"The supportive living centre... 15 clients are living up there, the mattresses aren't great, and not great is putting that lightly," Lowey says.
In past years, the Coldest Night of the Year saw a group of people walking through downtown. This year the pandemic has meant changes, including the walk being done individually, and on your own timeframe.
"Stay safe by walking on your own two- or five-kilometre route close to home and within your bubble," says the Mustard Seed news release. You can also participate any day leading up to the official date of Feb. 20.
Plus, an appreciation drive-thru will be held Feb. 20 at the north parking lot of the Sandman Centre between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Registration is free at cnoy.org/kamloopsfree.
