ELECTION 2022-MINNESOTA-GOVERNOR
Minn. GOP candidate suggests jail for Dem elections chief
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A leading Republican running for Minnesota governor has suggested that the state’s Democratic secretary of state should go to prison, though he provided no legal basis for why. Scott Jensen is a doctor and former state senator known for his skepticism of the COVID-19 vaccine and the state’s response to the pandemic. Jensen attacked Secretary of State Steve Simon at a recent district GOP convention over how he's run the state's election system. He said Simon should see if he looks good in “in stripes." Simon called it a “bizarre and irresponsible” attempt to use conspiracy theories to radicalize supporters. Courts have found that steps Simon took during the 2020 elections were legal.

SPRING FLOODING
Flooding affecting travel in parts of ND, Minnesota
CAVALIER, N.D. (AP) — Excessive rainfall has caused flooding in northeastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota where roads are closed and at least one small community is surrounded by water. In North Dakota, the city of Neche, with a population of about 380, has become an island with the Pembina River cresting at 21.7 feet, according to Pembina County Emergency Management spokeswoman Rebecca Flanders. It’s anticipated that the water level in Neche will be consistent for the next several days to a week. About 16 miles to the south, officials asked residents in some parts of Cavalier to evacuate their homes due to the rising water. The city's mayor says a few people left their homes for higher ground.

CANADA-FLOODS
Flooding forces evacuation in parts of Manitoba after rains
WINNIPEG (AP) — Flooding has forced evacuations in some parts of Manitoba after heavy rains caused rivers to swell. The Manitoba government said some regions in the province’s south received four to six times the normal amount of precipitation in April, much of it in the form of snow that was melting at the same time as heavy rains on the weekend. The Peguis First Nation, about 150 kilometers (93.2 miles) north of Winnipeg, was placed under a mandatory evacuation order after ice jams on the Fisher River drove up water levels.

Biden said Sunday that Mondale “was a giant in American political history.”
