The picturesque Kettle Valley Rail Trail has been named one of the top ten "bikepacking" routes in North America.

The cycling magazine Momentum released its list for the best bike tripping routes to ride in 2025, and the KVR Trail is on it.

“The Kettle Valley Rail Trail, spanning 492 kilometres, offers an impressive and scenic journey through British Columbia from Midway to Hope. This trail, following a historic railway line, passes through the Boundary region and up through the Okanagan, showcasing a variety of BC’s unique terrains,” Momentum’s Ron Johnson wrote in the magazine.

The trail is listed alongside famous routes like the Pacific Coast Route and the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route.

Johnson recommends adventurous cyclists stop by Myra Canyon Trestles in Kelowna, Okanagan Lake and Christina Lake. He lists Chute Lake Resort, Cascade Cove Campground and Castlegar RV and Campground as the best spots to camp.

This recognition comes as the trail from Sicamous to Osoyoos moves a step closer to completion. The trail would connect the Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail to the Okanagan Rail Trail and extend it south, potentially giving riders the chance to turn right onto the KVR trail.

Organizations like the Trail of the Okanagans Society have been working with local governments for decades to turn the region into a world class cycling destination.
