The frontman for the Grammy-winning Puerto Rican hip-hop outfit Calle 13 says he sees similarities between the Palestinians' situation and his own back home.

Rene Perez is in the West Bank to shoot the band's latest video "Multi Viral." He said the song is about manipulation of the media and how it distorts information.

He told The Associated Press Thursday that he found the Palestinian situation similar to Puerto Rico's "because we are a colony of the Unites States. Here you have the situation with Israel." Perez, also known as Residente, said Puerto Rico and the Palestinians both have "cosmetic" governments.

Calle 13 is known for its politically charged lyrics, Afro-Caribbean beats and raunchy dance anthems. The group has won 19 Latin Grammy Awards and two Grammy Awards.
