Missing Kamloops man located deceased

A Kamloops man who was reported missing over two weeks ago has been found deceased.

Jakob Gibbon, 22, and his white Dodge Avenger were located down a steep ravine near Summit Drive and Victoria Street West around 4:10 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 15, as the result of motor vehicle collision, according to a media release by Kamloops RCMP. His family said it was a single-vehicle crash.

“According to the investigation so far, it appears as though the crash likely occurred around a similar timeframe of when the man was reported missing,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “It's a sad outcome and our thoughts go out to his family and friends.”

Gibbon was last seen at his resident in Kamloops on Dec. 28 and his friends and family have been searching for him.

"It is with heavy and broken hearts we are saddened to say Jakob has been located," reads a post on the a family Facebook page. "Our hearts are broken and we will now work on healing.

"He was involved in a single vehicle accident and his car was in a location that was not easily seen to anyone. Unfortunately he did not survive."

The Kamloops RCMP Municipal Traffic Unit and the B.C. Coroners Service continue to conduct concurrent, ongoing investigations.

No criminality is currently suspected.
