A missing hiker's body was found at the base of McIntyre Bluff near Oliver after more than a day of searching.

He crossed Vaseux Lake on his paddle board and planned to hike in the area on Aug. 27, sending photos to family from the top of the bluff that evening with no indication anything was wrong, according to an Oliver RCMP news release.

He was reported missing to police the next day and search teams found his paddle board well up on shore, but no sign of the hiker, according to the news release.

Penticton Search and Rescue checked the area, along with a police dog team. The scene was also scanned by air with a search and rescue helicopter and an RCMP plane with no success on Monday, Aug. 29.

His body was was then found at the base of the bluff when aerial searches began again early Aug. 30.

“This is a tragic result for the family of the deceased. The Oliver RCMP and Victim Services will continue to support them through this difficult time. Thank you to Search and Rescue for their assistance in recovering the victim from this dangerous and challenging location,” Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth said in the news release.

The BC Coroners Service is now leading the investigation. Although it's likely he fell from the bluff, police did not say whether that was the suspected cause of his death.

Police did not name the hiker.
