Missed opportunities or dodged bullets? Penticton museum talks cancelled city projects

FILE PHOTO

Penticton city projects that never came to light is the topic of the Penticton Museum’s newest lunch hour lecture, Missed opportunities or dodged bullets?

Penticton’s director of development services Blake Laven is digging up 10 city proposals which were never completed to inform the public about how the city makes these calls, and whether they made the right choice.

Everyone is welcome to take in his lecture from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19 in the museum's auditorium.

Laven is covering recent proposals many may have heard of such as the public-private high rises which were cancelled because they were going to be too high considering their proximity to Penticton airport.

He's also going into lesser known projects with a history, such as a second highway to Kelowna along the Kettle Valley Railway on the other side of the lake.

Entry to the lecture is by donation, but the museum asks people to pay $2 for adults and $1 for kids.

The museum has a YouTube channel where people can see all past presentations in its lunch hour Brown Bag Lecture Series.

The museum has been hosting these events for several years and have covered a range of topics from Ghost Stories to Police Dogs.
