Ministry investigating complaints about hundreds of trees felled after West Kelowna wildfire

A resident on Bear Creek Road in the West Kelowna area has filed a complaint following what they feel is an excessive number of trees being cut dow near their property.

A complaint has been filed with BC Ministry Natural Resource Officers after a large number of trees were chopped down along Bear Creek Road in the West Kelowna area.

Following the destruction of the McDougall Creek wildfire, which left thousands of hectares of forest scorched by fire, danger trees and other potentially harmful debris have had to be removed.

BC Parks told iNFOnews.ca it would be conducting danger tree assessments to ensure the safe access for the public to Bear Creek Provincial Park, the area surrounding the problematic tree cutting zone.

However, the danger tree assessments seem to have led to an excessive amount of tree felling, leaving some residents feeling as if an already bad situation has just been made a whole lot worse.

This week, B.C Ministry of Forests confirmed to iNFOnews.ca that at least one resident has filed a complaint and that an active investigation is underway.

As the investigation is still ongoing, the Ministry of Forests, as well as the local residents affected, have said that they are unable to comment on the complaint. However, it is clear that the sheer volume of felled trees is the reason.

From photos alone it's clear the forests have been irreversibly altered, leaving an uncertain future for the landscape.

Countless trees on Bear Creek Road have been cut down in the aftermath of the McDougall Creek wildfire.
