SUN PEAKS - A new chairlift is part of a massive, $60-million development year at Sun Peaks Resort.

A new four-passenger, fixed-grip lift will be installed in the East Village area of the resort, allowing for improved guest access to the main village core, along with existing ski terrain.

The $4-million project is expected to be completed this December, according to a news release from the resort.

Vice President and General Manager Darcy Alexander says better access from the East Village is crucial.

"The new lift is something we are really pleased to add to the mix for next winter and it will greatly enhance our industry leading ski-in ski-out design,” Alexander said in the release.

Another part of the investment includes a complete guestroom makeover at the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel and Conference Centre. It will turn the 221 rooms into quiet luxury with an updated contemporary attitude, the release says. The $7-million project is expected to be complete by this December.

Other major projects that are part of the investment include increasing capacity by 30 per cent on the Sundance Express through the addition of new carriers, different mountain capital improvements led by two new snow cats, planning, designing and construction of the new Sun Peaks Centre multi-purpose facility, completing construction of the Village Walk luxury townhome complex, and launching construction of the Echo Landing alpine townhome and condo project.

“These efforts are all part of our overall Master Development Plan and 2018 will definitely be a big year at Sun Peaks. We are tremendously excited about what these projects will mean for the experience at our world class resort,” Alexander said.
