KELOWNA - Some people call them bathroom words, others call them mascots.
Metro Vancouver chose the latter approach and introduced Pee and Poo to the world yesterday, as part of their third annual "Unflushables" campaign.
The campaign, which reminds residents not to flush wipes and other items like hair, floss and tampons down their toilets because they can clog the sewer system and damage pumping equipment, was launched April 1. Perhaps because it wasn't an April Fool's joke, the mascots that look like an emoji poo and drop of pee didn't get trotted out until an April 29 event at Waterfront Station.
“It’s important for residents to understand that disposing of unflushable items in the toilet may cause clogs on residential property and result in costly repairs at the owner’s expense,” said Richard Stewart, Chair of Metro Vancouver’s Utilities Committee, in a press release launching the campaign. “Even though many wipe products are labelled ‘flushable,’ residents should be throwing them in the trash, not the toilet.”
