BC restores coverage for medical supplies for those on income or disability aid

VICTORIA - The B.C. government is restoring coverage for certain medical supplies for people on income and disability assistance.

The government scrapped the coverage in 2010 in a bid to save money, but Social Development Minister Stephanie Cadieux says she's reversing the cuts after reviewing the situation.

The items the government will again cover range from scooters, humidifiers and ventilator supplies to glucose meters, apnea monitors and syringes.

The list also includes several orthotics supplies, adding to orthotic supplements the government restored coverage for last summer.

The government says the changes will ensure medically necessary supports are available for people who need them most.

The changes take effect in October.
