The Central Okanagan emergency operations centre has removed almost all the evacuation alerts associated with for the McDougall Creek wildfire and downgraded evacuation orders and alerts for the Glen Lake wildfire.

BC Wildfire Service is still working around the McDougall Creek wildfire’s edge to make sure any remaining hot spots are put out as firefighters move towards the centre of the fire's perimeter, according to an emergency operations centre media release issued today, Sept. 25. There are still tree faller teams in the area cutting down danger trees to make sure the area is safe for workers.

There area restriction order, which includes Bear Creek Provincial Park, is still in place.

The weather is getting cooler but the wildfire service says smoke will still be visible from the McDougall Creek fire for the next few weeks, or until there is lots of rain or snow.

B.C. Wildfire says smoke coming from within the fire’s perimeter is normal and is not a concern if it is surrounded by black, burnt fuels. If people see smoke coming from green, unburned areas they should report it immediately by calling 1-800-663-5555.

For the Glen Lake wildfire, evacuation orders have been downgraded to alerts for properties along the Glen Lake Forest Service Road. The evacuation alerts have been lifted south of the Brenda Mine site, southwest of Highway 97C (Okanagan Connector) and west of Highway 97, Emergency Operations said in a press release.

The 1,116 hectare Glen Lake wildfire is still classified as out of control but the wildfire service says it isn't growing.

Emergency crews are removing some equipment which is no longer needed in Peachland.
