KAMLOOPS - Construction is going strong at north Kamloops aquatic facilities, with a new water park set to open near the beginning of July and major repairs at Westsyde Pool sated for mid-summer.
Construction at Westsyde Pool could begin by mid-July, city capital projects manager Darren Crundwell says. Drawings will be finalized next week and the city has pre-qualified a list of contractors for the job, he says.
“We want to have the project complete by Jan. 9,” Crundwell notes of the city's tight timeline.
The budget for repairs at Westsyde Pool is $3 million.
The new spray park at McDonald Park is also on budget and schedule, Crundwell says. The spray park is under construction and should be open for July 1.
“There’s still quite bit of work, but we’re still on schedule for July 1,” he says. “That one was a pretty tight schedule, too.”
The spray park is replacing the outdoor pool at McDonald Park.
The Brocklehurst Pool is currently open and is scheduled for repairs next year, recreation director Byron McCorkell says in an email.
