Mary-Jo Okeefe

VERNON - Another candidate tossed a hat into the ring Friday morning for the upcoming Vernon mayoral race.

Mary-Jo O’Keefe stood before a crowd at Davison Orchards to announce her intention.

In her speech, O’Keefe said her 15 years of experience serving on the Vernon school board and second consecutive term as city councillor will be assets if she is elected mayor.

“My experience in both roles has provided me with the opportunity to develop the skills and experience I believe is needed for effective leadership at City Hall,” she said. “I believe the community needs a leader who has had the opportunity to work within the government and understands the mechanics of getting things done.”

O’Keefe is currently the president and owner of MJ Communications, a marketing solutions business located in Vernon. In the past, she worked with Community Futures Development Corporation implementing marketing strategies. She was also managing director of Vernon Tourism for eight years, director of sales for Westwater Hotel Group in Vancouver and a travel industry sales representative with Expo 86. She has an MBA from Athabaska University.

O’Keefe sits on numerous boards and committees in the city of Vernon.
