Mara Mountain wildfire growing away from Sicamous

B.C. Wildfire Management crews are fighting a fire near Zipzone Peachland on Brenda Mines Road, Saturday, June 27, 2015.

BC Wildfire Service members are continuing to tackle the wildfire on Mara Mountain as it grows away from Sicamous.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District put out an update about the region's fires this morning.

The Mara Mountain fire is 9 km southeast of Sicamous and still out of control. The fire is 29 hectares at this time but it is growing in a direction away from Sicamous and Swansea Point, according to the district’s update.

Heavy helicopters will continue bucketing today since the fire is in challenging and steep terrain.

If the fire’s growth does change directions, officials expect the burn scar from the 2021 Two Mile wildfire to slow it down and allow firefighters to access the blaze without helicopters.

There are spot fires in the Perry River area and they are still out of control, but fire crews are handling the situation and none of the fires are threatening any structures.

Firefighters have brought fires under control near Dasnier’s Bay and Yard Creek.
