COVID-19 numbers have continued to stack up in B.C., but the map detailing where cases are showing up indicates that the Central Okanagan is doing particularly poorly keeping the pandemic in check.

According to the map that plots out the distribution of COVID-19 by cities from Nov. 29 to Dec. 5, the Central Okanagan is emerging as a hotspot with 314 cases. It’s by far the highest number in the interior.

The only other Interior Health area that has the same proportion of cases is Kettle Valley, but that’s with only six cases.

In contrast, during the same timeframe, Kamloops had 26 cases, Salmon Arm had five, Vernon had 21, Enderby had one, Penticton had 50 and Keremeos had one.

The Central Okanagan caseload is now even surpassing Lower Mainland cities that were once surging daily.

For the same period, Surrey had the lion share with1,588 cases, but Langley recorded only 157.  The Tri Cities had 168 cases, while Burnaby had 238.

There were 4,867 new reports in this timeframe, a 16% decrease from the 5,796 reports in week 48 and representing the first substantial decline in weekly reports since the September start of of the restart, according to BCCDC data about the timeframe.

Incidence decreased in recent weeks in all age groups, albeit still elevated and notably so for adults 80+ years at 123 per 100,000.
