Man uses life jacket to help rescue friend who fell overboard in the Shuswap

CHASE - Two men in the Shuswap were uninjured after a close call on waters close to Anglemont.

Chase RCMP says in a news release it all started around 8:35 p.m. on July 20 when the owner of a boat fell off the vessel without a life jacket, and the boat began drifting away due to the rough waters.

There were three passengers onboard but none of them were familiar with the boat operations and were unable to get the boat started to grab the man in the water, police say. One passenger jumped into the water with a life jacket and swam to the owner of the boat.

Both men held onto the life jacket to stay afloat until help arrived.

People watching the incident from the shore noticed what was going on and police say they formed a rescue. The men were provided first aid and the drifting boat was pulled ashore.

Police say there were no injuries.
