Kamloops RCMP resorted to a taser to apprehend a man during a wellness check Monday night.
Police were called to a home on Mount Dufferin Crescent before midnight on Jan. 23. The man was in a "drug-induced mental health crisis," according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.
Police say he was behaving in a "threatening manner" and officers unsuccessfully tried to calm him down when they got to the scene.
“Due to the risk the man’s behaviour was presenting to the officers and to himself, police deployed a conductive energy device to assist in his apprehension,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the news release.
Even that didn't calm him down.
"The man continued to be combative with police even after he was placed in handcuffs," Evelyn said.
Paramedics arrived on scene and he was taken to hospital for treatment under the Mental Health Act.
